The largest production of wood fuel briquettes in the North-West has been launched at the Cherepovets Holding enterprise
In December 2014, in Nizhnyaya Mondoma village at AO "Belozersky lespromkhoz" (the enterprise of the "Cherepovetsles" holding company) the wood fuel briquettes production of sawmill wastes was started. The planned capacity is up to 12 thousand tons of consumer briquettes per year.
For production, denser round briquettes were purposefully selected, which provide a longer burning process comparing to lower density RUF briquettes. The optimal density of the consumer round briquette was chosen over 1.0 tons/m³, with humidity at 10-12%.
The production design began in 2013, and construction started in early 2014. Installation of the equipment was carried out in 2 months. The main equipment is briquetting presses manufactured by C. F. Nielsen (Denmark). To accommodate the technological equipment produced by leading European companies, a production workshop was built measuring 20 by 24 m, with a height of 11.5 m in the ridge. The energy consumption of the new production is 450 kW.
Industrial briquettes are planned to be sold for export, the process of product certification is underway. Export deliveries during the navigation period (May-October) can be carried out by water transport, but trucks are in priority. The export of briquettes is planned to be carried out to the countries of sawn timber supply — the countries of Central Europe, where the biofuel market has already developed and is well developed, but there is a shortage of products. Also the sale of briquettes is oriented to the local market - the Vologda Region, since a program has been announced to transfer local boiler houses from the consumption of imported fossil fuels (coal, fuel oil) to renewable energy sources, including wood fuel.
For briquettes production, waste products from the sawmill in Nizhnyaya Mondoma will be used: chip screening, miter trimmings and about 30% will be sawdust. Briquette production will annually process about 30 thousand m³ of dense waste. The briquette workshop equipment allows to produce both long and short briquettes, it is possible to produce the so-called "washer" - very short briquettes. They can replace coal, since the dimensions of the washers are comparable to pieces of coal, which means that the boiler rooms will not need to radically alter the supply system. The finished product warehouse is designed for the volume of full load monthly production of fuel briquettes.
Employees who have worked for many years at the sawmill of AO "Belozersky Lespromkhoz" work as operators on the briquette equipment. 15 people are employed in the production of briquettes, the work goes around the clock, in two shifts, including weekends. In total, 150 people work at the sawmill and fuel briquettes production in Nizhnyaya Mondoma.
The cost of briquettes production construction amounted to almost 150 million rubles, taking into account the cost of equipment and VAT. Financing was carried out only at the expense of own funds of the "Cherepovetsles" holding company.
